Another year over
On July 6th President Capt Peter Morris hands over the chair to the incoming President Ann Parton, who will be the first female Rotarian to preside over the Alsager Rotary Club.
During the past year Rotarians have been as busy as ever devoting there time and efforts helping local and International causes.
Alsagers Generosity.
With the help of the people of Alsager and neighbouring areas the club has been able to raise funds from their activities such as the Photographic competition,Cyclethon, Charity Market Singing Santa's, Christmas Market stall etc, etc and the funds raised have allowed us to support Charities such as, N.S.P.C.C., Marie Curie, British Heart Foundation, Citizens Grand Variety Show, Alsager Youth Project, Schools Young Designer Awards and Junior Schools competitions, together with the purchase of "Life Boxes" for emergency aid to disaster areas, a donation also went to DEBRA for help with skin diseases.
Presidents Project 2008/9
Capt Peters desire for his year of office was to achieve the setting up of "ALSAGER ROTARACT CLUB" and he worked tirelessly to achieve this and we are pleased that he has succeeded.
The Certificate has been awarded along with their Charter, and they are having fun as you can see from the photo taken at the Carnival and assisting Rotary at the Cyclethon.
International support
"Life Boxes" for emergency aid to disaster areas, the last one being the earth quake in Italy, these life boxes contain everything for a family from a tent for 10 persons, a stove, pots, pans, tools, water purification etc and are very welcome, they were also used nearer to home such as Hull during the last lot of floods.
Help has been given to a school in Namibia to help provide sewing machines to enable the school provide there own uniforms and now its going so well they are producing the same for other schools, this project is a joint one with the Alsager High School.
Cyclethon 2009
Cyclethon was held on Sunday 7th June and was opened by the new Alsager Town Councils Chairman Simon Robertson (photo) 68 individual riders took part but the wet weather intervened in the afternoon but we were very pleased with the number of families and young children who took part one of which was a 10 year old boy who had had a heart valve operation riding the course with his mother.
The newly formed Alsager Rotaract Club, part of our extended family, helped with the Marshalling which was very useful, however we would stress that the destruction of the sign outside the Wilbraham arms "Church Lawton Welcomes Careful Drivers" had nothing to do with the Cyclethon.(photo)
