Rotary is a worldwide organisation with members who are called Rotarians. People who are not unlike you, fun-loving, active volunteers who give their time and use their talents to help communities both locally, nationally and internationally. Dedicated people, men and women from business and professions, who share a common interest in serving and helping others.
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) boasts 55,000 members belonging to 1,840 clubs. It is an integral part of Rotary International, the world's first and number one service organisation with over 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Each Rotarian is encouraged to enjoy the business and social networking opportunities, whilst giving back to those less fortunate, learning new skills and having fun!
Rotary International organises and carries out countless humanitarian projects both locally, nationally and internationally. It also partners with many charities worldwide.
Rotarians run community projects that address and help solve many of today's most critical issues, such as social violence, abuse of drugs, health problems, lack of food and water, the environment, illiteracy as well as responding and helping out in disaster areas.
Rotary works for and with young people addressing challenges facing them today. Interact and Rotaract is also sponsored by Rotary, with a similar club structure aimed at young people aged 14-18 and 18-30 respectively.
Rotary is committed to eradicate polio from the world. Since Rotary became involved in polio eradication in 1985, the number of reported instances of polio cases has dropped from 350,000 a year to just 1,000; 125 endemic countries have been reduced to just 4 - Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan; and over two billion children have been immunised and protected from the disease.
